READING AND BOOK LAUNCH: "The Missing Body of the Fox," by James Baker Hall

READING AND BOOK LAUNCH: "The Missing Body of the Fox," by James Baker Hall

Thursday, November 17, 2022

6-7 pm

UK Art Museum

FREE

Join us for a celebration of The Missing Body of the Fox, the recently published memoir by poet and artist James Baker Hall. We are happy to collaborate with Mary Ann Taylor-Hall, Erik Reece, Lawrence Pemble, Institute 193, and Old Cove Press on this special evening. We will have copies of the book for sale.

Written in the last years before his death, The Missing Body of the Fox goes in search of the mother whose suicide Hall witnessed when he was eight years old. Working his way through a memory shattered by trauma, he tries to recover the story of his mother Lurlene Bronaugh and the long consequences of her death for his childhood self and the man he becomes. In what Erik Reece calls "genuine, probing, unflinching" language, Hall seeks out a story that was shuttered in silence and shame. The book includes eighty-five images from Hall’s photographic series Orphans & Elegies. It features a foreword by Erik Reece and an introduction by Mary Ann Taylor-Hall.

Vampires vs. The Bronx (2020)

Hello,

I am sending a friendly reminder on behalf of the DEI Committee to alert that tomorrow (November 1st) we will show Vampires vs. the Bronx at 6:30 PM in the William T. Young Auditorium.

Please encourage your students to attend this Afro-Latinx horror-comedy that deals gentrification. The film will be followed with a brief Q&A by special guest faculty Dr. Jeff Rogers from the MCLLC Department.

We hope to see you there!

Thanks, and have a great week ahead,

DEI Committee
