The English Graduate Programs at the University of Kentucky offer advanced degrees designed to prepare students for academic and professional success. Each program is tailored to provide rigorous academic training, research opportunities, and professional development. 

The Department offers robust resources to support student success including a nationally recognized faculty; teaching opportunities and pedagogical development; competitive funding in the form of assistantships, research fellowships, summer support, and professional travel allowances; and professional development opportunities. There is also an active English Graduate Student Organization and a literary journal, The New Limestone Review. Master of Arts (MA) in English 
The MA program focuses on deepening students' understanding of literary and cultural theory, enhancing skills in historical and textual analysis, and advancing proficiency in critical reading and writing. The program prepares graduates for careers in education, publishing, editing, and writing, or for further academic pursuits at the doctoral level.

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing
The department’s prestigious MFA Creative Writing program offers a supportive environment for students to develop their writing in workshops and classrooms taught by world-renowned writers. The program cultivates skilled and innovative writers who pursue careers as authors, editors, and teachers of creative writing.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in English
The PhD program is designed for students who wish to engage in advanced scholarship and teaching. The program is known for its strong faculty research, diverse course offerings in literature and film, and excellent graduate career placement in both academic and non-academic fields.
