John Duncan

I graduated with a bachelors in Arts and Science from the University of Kentucky in 2010.  Shortly thereafter I traveled to Seoul, South Korea where I taught children from the ages of 5 to 14 basic English and History to the older students- the younger ones couldn't have cared less about History as they were generally trying to master the art of using the restroom solo.  Two years of excellent food, confusing relationships and brutal working hours was enough and I moved back to Lexington to try and get my life in order and figure out what to do next.  Instead I ended up bartending at one of the deepest dive bars in town.  I considered applying to the History grad program at UK.  The day before I was going to turn in my application I ran into some of the English faculty from UK (previous professors of mine) celebrating the newly green lit MFA program.  It took little convincing to reconsider my application to the history department.  I've always been a writer first and foremost. To have a chance to do what I love for a living and even an aspect of that is more than a dream come true.  I am so happy to be a part of the beginning and meet everyone.
