Jamie Wheeler, an A&S professional advisor, is a 2012 recipient of the University of Kentucky's Ken Freedman Outstanding Advising Award, which is given each year to one professional and one faculty adviser. Candidates for the award are nominated by UK's student body, and this is the second year in a row a professional advisor within A&S has received the honor. A&S professional advisors work with more than 300 students each, with each focusing on a particular academic community.

Rusty Barrett is an assistant professor in the Linguistics program. On February 16^th, 2012, Barrett will present a lecture, “Sickening Queens: Ethnic and Class Difference in Drag.” The lecture is at 4pm in the President’s Room at the Singletary Center for the Arts, and will address ways in which drag performances reflect social and cultural differences related to class and ethnicity. 

English undergraduate Jeremy Puckett is finishing his first novel, Black Bottom Hollow. Puckett recently sat down with Cheyenne Hohman to discuss the writing process, his inspiration for writing, and different avenues for publishing.
