College of Arts and Sciences Inducting Five Into Hall of Fame

Celebrating the accomplishments of distinguished alumni and faculty, the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences will induct five new members into the its Hall of Fame Friday, Oct. 9.

Mathskeller: Math Resource Center

The center is a computing and mathematics learning center of the Mathematics Department and the Mathematical Sciences Computing Facility at the University of Kentucky. The center is located in CB 63, which is close to the loading dock in the basement of White Hall Classroom Building. The Math Resource Center is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Faculty, Graduate Students, and Undergraduate Assistants for 100 level courses hold office hours in the Mathskeller.

Ingrid Daubechies, the first female full professor of mathematics at Princeton and first woman president of the International Mathematical Union, will deliver the 2015 van Winter Memorial Lecture

Cyrus Hettle's paper "The Symbolic and Mathematical Influence of Diophantus's Arithmetica" published in the Journal of Humanistic Mathematics

Cyrus Hettle's paper The Symbolic and Mathematical Influence of Diophantus's Arithmetica was published in the January 2015 issue of the Journal of Humanistic Mathematics.  Cyrus received his undergraduate degrees from UK in 2014 with majors in Mathematics and Classics, and is currently a graduate student in the mathematics department.  His paper began as a project in MA 330, History of Mathematics, when he was an undergraduate.

Recently, undergraduates from the departments of biology, english, history, mathematics, political science, and sociology received Oswald Awards for Research and Creativity.
