Mary Clai Jones is an Assistant Professor of English and the Writing Area Coordinator at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.  She received her PhD from the University of Kentucky in August of 2015, working under the direction of Ellen Rosenman.  She teaches a variety of courses including Victorian Literature, Introduction to Literature, and a range of composition and rhetoric classes. At Lincoln, she designs curricula for freshman general education courses and works closely with Academic Support to train writing tutors and present pedagogy workshops.  Mary Clai’s teaching is influenced by her research interests in women’s literature, social geography, and material culture. Her publications include “Refashioning Spaces of Play in Victorian Doll Stories,” which recently appeared in Nineteenth Century Gender Studies and “Marie Corelli’s Ziska and Fantastic Feminism” is forthcoming in the edited collection The Female Fantastic, 1860-1930: On the Gendered Supernatural in Texts by Women. Currently, she is working on a book project, Walking While Female: A Cultural and Political History of Gendered Walking.
